Read John 3:22-36

They came to John and said to him, “Rabbi, that man who was with you on the other side of the Jordan—the one you testified about—look, he is baptizing, and everyone is going to him.” To this John replied, “A person can receive only what is given them from heaven. You yourselves can testify that I said, ‘I am not the Messiah but am sent ahead of him.’ The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete. He must become greater; I must become less.” John 3:26-30

Dear God,
I wait and listen for your voice and am full of joy when I hear it and the answer is what I want to hear. Forgive me for the times when I hear you but don’t like your response or for the times when the door closes and I insist on trying to pry it open or break it down. Forgive me for thinking that I am greater or know better. “He must become greater; I must become less.” That is exactly the point when my heart is filled with joy. That is exactly the moment that I am content in any circumstance. That is exactly the instant when I am filled with peace in the midst of grief, despair, sickness, addiction, anxiety or depression. When you become greater, when you become my focus and my guide, nothing else matters. All the darkness of this world becomes light. There is nothing on this planet that could take the joy, peace and love you so generously give as long as there is less of me and more of you.
I love you, Papa.
