Read John 2:13-24
The Jews then responded to him, “What sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?” Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.” They replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?” But the temple he had spoken of was his body. After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken. John 2:18-22
Dear God,
We are always asking for proof. We have such a hard time believing what we cannot see. We have such little faith! It must have been hard for the people of this time to understand Jesus’ words. They were asking the Son of God to prove himself to them! They didn’t know the end of the story like we do. They didn’t have these verses to tell them what came next! This should be giving us the upper-hand. This should be making us more faithful and expectant, but here we are still doubting and still questioning the definition of a temple. Is it God or a church? What are we worshipping? Forgive us, Father. You are the temple and we destroyed you, but you came back for us because you loved us. You overcame all darkness, sin, doubt and shame because you loved us. Thank you for your great love. Help me to focus on this verse today, recall your words and believe the scripture I am so fortunate to have before my very eyes.
I love you, Papa.
