Meditate on verses 1-4
Dear God,
You are the epitome of generosity. You gave Your only Son to suffer and die an excruciating death for our salvation. You gave it all. Today, I will have a “generosity” check. We like to think of generosity in terms of money, but it is so much more. Am I giving of my time to whose who need me? Am I giving love to all who I encounter? Am I patient with those who are upset or frustrated? Am I present in conversations and quality time with family and friends?Do I share the gifts God has blessed on me? Am I welcoming to those who are isolated, lonely or grieving? In this third week of advent, we focus on the joy in our hearts as we anticipate the birth of Jesus. Are we giving all of these things with a joyful spirit and open hands or are we clenching our fists with worry and stress about not having enough money, time, love or patience? Today, Lord, I ask for the spirit of the poor widow. I will unclench my fists and lift my eyes to You, the one who gave it all. I will slow down in this season of busyness and follow Your tremendous example of “life-giving.” Allow me to joyfully give all the treasures You have bestowed on me so that I can share the good news of You!
I love You, Papa.
