Meditate on verses 8-12
Dear God,
Who did you decide to share the news of the birth of Jesus with first? Shepherds! Lowly, poor, dirty shepherds whose job it was to herd their flocks. That fact in itself is prophetic. Jesus, Our Shepherd, was first made known to shepherds. This baby would be the one who herds us back time and time again and the one who never stops searching for us. He is the one who never sleeps and always has an eye out for us. Our pursuer, our Savior, our Redeemer and our Friend. Again, your angel appeared and said, “Do not be afraid.” Again, your angel was bringing good news! Again, your angel spoke the truth as the shepherds found exactly what was told to them by the angel. Today, Papa, I pray for open eyes to see your angels, open ears to hear your angels and an open heart to trust them. Are they bringing me good news? Do I hear them or am I too busy reacting to the noise of this chaotic world to even notice? Quiet my heart, Lord. Give me the senses of those shepherds so that I can search for you, find you, follow you and worship you just like they did.
I love you, Papa.
